The book's editor, Elizabeth York Enstam, received her Ph.D. degree in history from Duke University. She has taught at Wake Forest University, Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, and more recently, at Brookhaven College of the Dallas County Community College District. In 1979-80 she was Resident Humanities Scholar in history for the Dallas Public Library. She has published numerous articles in education and community history.
